The Dells

The Dells - The Love We Had Stays On My Mind - Live

Stay in my Corner
Hey Sugar
Wear it on our Face
Love is Blue
Run for Cover
You bring out the best in me

In four decades of recording the Dells have made only one personnel change and appeared live in the UK for the first time at a 2001 Northern Soul Weekender. Marvin Junior’s their lead singer can be seen making many humorous anecdotes about Dell’ cover groups, on the DVD The Strange World Of Northern Soul.

They signed with Vee-Jay (Chicago) in 1955, Oh, What a Night which was a major R ‘n B hit in 1956.

Soul fans know them best for their 1960s recordings especially Stay in My Corner (1965.) On Chess they recorded There Is, Always Together, Give Your Baby A Standing Ovation and the great Wear It On Our Face. Although these were played at some Manchester soul clubs, the Twisted Wheel in particular, it was the Blue Note Club that played this type of Soul most frequently.

Yes it was Dave Lomas who imported all he could get regarding The Dells from postal auctions including and playing at the club the fantastic Run for Cover (see above).

Apparently the Northern Soul crowd ‘discovered’ The Dells in the 70’s and subsequently Kev Roberts puts Run For Cover at 85 on his all time Top 500.
