Melvin Franklin (real name David Melvin English) was a member of The Temptations and the guy with the bass voice. He was born in Alabama.
Melvin stayed with The Temptations from their formation in 1960 all the way to 1994. He had several health problems including rheumatoid arthritis the treatment of which with cortisone led to further problems.
In 1975 he was shot in the leg and hand while trying to stop a thief stealing his car.
