The Limit Club Middleton

The Limit Club Middleton was located at the bottom of Wood Street in Middleton, number 16 – upstairs above a row of shops. Wood Street went up the hill to Langley estate, a massive 1950’s Manchester ‘overspill’ housing estate. One of the club’s first groups was Herman and The Hermits. It was fairly typical of the beat clubs that sprang up in all parts of Manchester in the early sixties, outliving some and folding before more famous venues such as The Twisted Wheel.

The Limit was also the launching pad for Red Hoffman and The Measles, a group famous within Langley in the period 1963-1964. The Club played a lot of early soul music.
