Rufus Thomas – Mr Memphis Music.  The longest serving DJ in the world and the man who invented the The Dog and Walking The Dog (covered by The Stones) – dance styles; but before that he did the Bad Cat at SUN and recorded a version of Hound Dog. However Lieber & Stoller sued Sam Phillips of Sun Records and Rufus left soon after!

Rufus Thomas with daughter Carla. Their song “When You Move You Lose” was an absolute SMASH at the Twisted Wheel and later at The Blue Note.

He went to Satellite records (which eventually became Stax) and did a duet Cause I Love You with his daughter Carla in 1959.

All the tracks listed above were played at Manchester‘s Twisted Wheel with Willy Nilly probably the biggest and best favourite at the All-nighters at the club.
