Limmie Snell – Limmie And Family Cookin’

Limmie & The Family Cookin - A Walkin Miracle

You Can Do Magic – 1972
A Walking Miracle – 1974 – cover version of the 1963 The Essex hit.

Limmie and Family Cookin’ were one of those oddities – a US band that did better in the UK. They were definitely middle of the road, easy listening. They were still performing in the UK in the eighties.

They were originally from Canton, Ohio and were a real family, Jimmie, Martha and Limmie Snell. You Can Do Magic is one of those perennial songs which often gets a play today as the backing track for adverts and TV features as has their version of A Walking Miracle. (The Essex orig.).

Limmie Snell first started recording when he was eleven and released the original recording of Good Lovin’ a massive hit for The Young Rascals later known simply as The Rascals. They were a white group as often was the case in the sixties when a black sung record was taken up by the mainstream. This was very common with British groups, of course, as with The Rolling Stones although they were the first to acknowledge the debt and rectify it by publicizing the original versions.
