Changes by Johnnie Taylor was launched in Manchester at the Blue Note By Roger Eagle in 1966. The ‘A’ side, ‘I Had A Dream’ also got many plays although claims have been made that it wasn’t played until 1969 (see Twisted Wheel book, CENtral 1179).

Johnnie Taylor became very popular in the early 1970’s having a major hit with, “WHO’S MAKING LOVE” and “TESTIFY ( I WANNA)”. Before this he replaced Sam Cooke as lead singer in the Soul Stirrers. By the mid 1960’s he moved to STAX and recorded “TOE HOLD”, which along with “BLUES IN THE NIGHT” (LP track) and the slow bluesy “I GOT TO LOVE SOMEBODY’S BABY”, and “Just The One I’ve Been Looking For” “Toe Hold” was a big hit at the Blue Note – here is the imported single from the Dave Lomas collection.
