It Ain’t What You’ve Got

It’s 1967: and Jimmy Hughes is everywhere. Unmistakably, here again is that STAX sound popping up, yet again? But no, this is the Muscle Shoals sound. Many Atlantic recording artists were sent down to the Stax recording studios and to Rick Halls Fame Studios in Alabama to make South sounding soulful recordings and At Muscle Shoals, Jimmy Hughes did not let anybody down with his groovy number about nosy neighbours. Unfortunately it’s only remembered by old soul aficionados these days. In 1967 it was hammered out in the two main clubs famous for soul – The Twisted Wheel and The Blue Note.

Others of note:

‘Don’t Lose Your Good Thing’ (1967).

Jimmy can be seen on the DVD SOULTOUR USA 2004.
