Jewel Akens

Jewel Akens - The Birds And The Bees (1965) (Remastered)

The Birds and The Bees

Who is Laurel Aitken in relation to Jewel Akens? Strange that both names are so similar and they both recorded the same song The Birds And The Bees.

A hit in 1965, The Birds and the Bees, with its bouncing riff got to number three on the USA Billboard pop chart and was huge at the Twisted Wheel in 65.

Jewel Akens was a big fan of Sam Cook. He toured across the USA and released several tracks including My First Lonely Night and Why Do You Want To Go Away – a Reggae influenced track on Paula Records but this was not one of his best.

Anyway back to the other guy – Laural Aitken was a leading light in the Skatalites, and they did the full-on Reggae version of The Birds And The Bees but I can’t find it listed anywhere.

Song Lyrics – The Birds and The Bees – Jewel Akens

Let me tell ya ’bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above
And a thing called ‘Love’

Let me tell ya ’bout the stars in the sky
And a girl and a guy
And the way they could kiss
On a night like this

When I look into your big brown eyes
It’s so very plain to see
That it’s time you learned about the facts of life
Starting from A to Z

Let me tell ya ’bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above
And a thing called ‘Love’ (Yeah!)

When I look into your big brown eyes
It’s so very plain to see
That it’s time you learned about the facts of life
Starting from A to Z

Let me tell ya ’bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the moon up above
And a thing called ‘Love’

Let me tell ya ’bout the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
And the birds and the bees
And the flowers and the trees
’bout the birds
FADE
and the bees
