Mamma Didn’t Lie – CHESS 1963

Jan Bradley, yet another singer who started in the gospel church, was born in Byhalia Mississippi, Illinois on the 6th July 1934 and began her singing career at the age of four in her church choir.

1961 Don Talty, the manager of guitarist Phil Upchurch signed her to Chess Records.
Her recording career began with We Girls, written and produced by Curtis Mayfield and it became a local hit.

1962, MAMA DIDN’T LIE was released in the UK (1963 in the UK). It became a big pop and soul hit but Jan’s career took a nosedive when Curtis Mayfield left Chess records.
She later left the music business went to college and became a social worker.
