Jackie Lee had massive massive dance floor hits all introduced to Manchester soul clubs first in 1965 at the Brazennose Street Twisted Wheel by the legendary Roger Eagle.

Real name: EARL LEE NELSON Jnr – he was the Earl in Bob and Earl with – Harlem Shuffle – and you just can’t imagine how HUGE a record it was at The Twisted Wheel! He had a bit of a battle with Bobby Freeman, each doing versions of the others material – The Duck, The Swim.

He made a really fantastic duet with Delores Hall: Whether Its Right Or Wrong:

THE DUCK USA original release; Mirwood 5502

The ‘Duck’ just rocked dance floors at all the soul clubs in the UK in 1965 and onwards – forever!
A DJ must have the 45, no serious Mod or soul fan could be without this in their collection and it comes close to reaching the atmospheric dance track that Jackie did as Bob and Earl – ‘Harlem Shuffle’.

Song Lyrics – The Duck – Jackie Lee lyrics by Fred Smith, Earl Nelson 1965

Umm-hmm
Now, there’s a new dance
It goes like-a this low
I know what you’re thinkin’, babe
Child, it ain’t The Jerk, n-no

Now, if ya come here to swim
Now man, you’re out a-luck
The name of this dance
Child, they call, The Duck

Hey Lord, you run down to the river, Lord
(Come on baby)
Then you get a duck
(Try your luck)

Oh Lord, you start to flap your wings
(Come on baby)
Child, until you get enough
(Do The Duck)

Now, come on, baby
(Come on baby)
Come on, baby
(Come on baby)

You know you’re lookin’, so
(Come on baby)
So, good now
Alright
(Do The Duck)

Ow!

Instrumental section

(Do-do-do-aah)

Just like a-workin’ on a chain gang
You`re bustin’ rocks
But now you’re groovin` on the Dance floor, Lord
(Come on baby)
Hey now, with a stone fox
(Do The Duck)

Come on, baby
(Come on baby)
Come on, baby
(Come on baby)

Now, just a little bit softer
(Do The Duck)
A little bit softer
(Do The Duck)
Now, just a little bit softer, now
(Do The Duck)

Now, just a little bit louder
(Do The Duck)
Lord, just a little bit-a louder
(Do The Duck)

My-my-my-my-my-my-my
(Do The Duck)
My-my, baby look
Come on
(Do The Duck)

Now, do The Duck
Hey, do The Duck
(Do The Duck)
Hey, do The Duck
(Come on baby)
Hey, do The Duck
(Come on baby)

Woo-ooo-ooo

Jackie Lee was simple one huge mega artist on that original sixties Mod Soul scene in Manchester Soul clubs in that decade: The ‘Wheel’ & The Blue Note.

Kev Roberts put “Darkest Days” in his top 500 at 285, for us on the original scene we loved all his output but the best must be THE DUCK.. oh and of course “Harlem Shuffle”: for all those memories. Kev also has “Do The Temptation Walk” at position 378.
