Gospel Roots

Touch Me Lord

RnB and then Soul grew out of two major twin musical channels Blues and Gospel and probably a little Jazz influences for good measure.
Multiple soul singers, far too numerous to record here, came up through gospel and church singing. Notably: Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin.
Some of the most famous Gospel singers and groups were, Dorothy Lovecoates, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, The Zion Travellers, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Pilgrim Travellers, The Delta Rhythm Boys, The Gospel Harmonettes, The Meditation Singers, The Drinkard Singers, The Staples Singers.
