Muscle Shoals

Muscle Shoals – Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler used a few notable independent recording studios to get a certain southern soul sound – Stax being one and Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals Florence Alabama being another.

Wilson Picket – “6345789” Percy Sledge – “When A Man Loves A Woman” were recorded here, as was most of Joe Tex‘s tracks. Aretha Franklin was recorded here: “I Never Loved A Man”. Dan Penn wrote and recorded here. Bill Lowery brought in the acts and Rick Hall engineered them, starting in 1964 with Jimmy Hughes – “Steal Away”.
