Early days at the Brazennose Street Twisted Wheel and Roger Eagle the DJ often played Jazz tracks. Dave (Warren) Brubeck was born 6th December 1920, Concord, CA. Between 1938 and 1942 he studied music at the College of the Pacific then led a service band in General Patton’s Army during World War II.

1946 he attended Mills College tutored by classical composer Darius Milhaud who encouraged jazz.

1946-49 he began a group with classmates, they recorded as the Dave Brubeck Octet.

1949/51 he formed a trio with vibes/drummer Cal Tjader  and bassist Ron Crotty. They released numbers on Fantasy label. Paul Desmond (Alto Sax) joined to make up a quartet.

1958. Paul Desmond joined and Take Five was recorded.

1960 Take Five became a massive cross Atlantic hit.

1967. The Dave Brubeck Quartet broke up. Later he joined up with his sons for further recording and touring.
